Chest Pain After Eating

As we approach middle age, many of us will start complaining of chest pain. The frequency of occurrence of the pain can vary. Some may experience it rarely, while others may experience it frequently. Chest pain is not a problem.


It is a symptom of an underlying health problem that needs to be diagnosed and treated by a qualified medical professional. There are some people who experience pain after eating. In most cases, this occurs due to gastroesophageal reflux disease, also known as GERD.


Here, the acids from the stomach move backwards into the esophagus causing heartburn. This burning sensation occurs just below the breastbone and can cause other problems like gas or a feeling of being bloated. The burning sensation often gets mistaken for chest pain as it can be quite painful and uncomfortable.


Besides experiencing the so-called chest pain, some people also experience burning sensation in the throat along with a bitter or sour after-taste in the mouth. Others may experience nausea Sometimes, the passage of food from the mouth to the esophagus and then to the stomach occurs with difficulty. This can also cause chest pain during or after eating.


This is usually seen in people who consume a lot of caffeine and tobacco. In order to alleviate this problem, it is advisable to eat healthily and maintain a healthy lifestyle. You should avoid eating chocolates, mints, fat-rich food and consuming alcohol.


Even citrus fruits, citrus fruit juice and tomato juice is known exacerbate the problem. In addition, ensure that you drink around 8 to 10 glasses of water per day. Do not eat food at least 2 hours before retiring to bed at night.
